Judge’s Comments

By Jason Cook, publishing judge

Calyx represents the literary magazine at its very best: passionately curated, densely beautiful, bold and subtle. Each story and poem demonstrates the journal’s commitment to excellence, to the value of literature and discovery of new writers who give voice to those quiet thoughts we think to ourselves and rarely share. In both senses of the word, Calyx is vital: a collection of writing that lives and breathes and doubts and loves, and a crucial resource for both emerging authors seeking a place for their stories to live and readers looking for beautiful and sincere writing.
