Tom Bissell is the author, most recently, of The Father of All Things: A Marine, His Son, and the Legacy of Vietnam, which was selected as one of the best books of the year by the Chicago Tribune, Salon and the Christian Science Monitor. His other books include Chasing the Sea and God Lives in St. Petersburg. Bissell teaches in the MFA program at Portland State University. The Oregon Book Awards recognize the year’s finest accomplishments by Oregon writers in the genres of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama and young readers literature. The finalists for the Oregon Book Awards, and this year’s special awards recipients, will be announced September 14th. Oregon Book Awards finalists will also be featured at this year’s Wordstock Festival on October 9-11th. The winners will be announced at the Oregon Book Awards ceremony on October 26th.
