![]() Frank RichNovember 5, 2006Portland Arts & LecturesArlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 7:30 p.m. New York Times op-ed columnist Frank Rich is one of our most timely and perceptive public voices. His first-ever collection of political writings, The Greatest Story Ever Sold (2006), offers a provocative retelling of the stories of America between 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. Rich’s memoir of his childhood love for Broadway theater, Ghost Light (2000), was praised by Doris Kearns Goodwin as “everything a literary memoir ought to be.” Time magazine called the book “a tender reminiscence . . . In this eloquent book, we see [Rich] becoming a critic and art lover in the truest, deepest sense.” In 2003, Rich’s New York Times column on culture and politics became the focal point for a restructured Sunday Arts & Leisure section. His early work at the paper was collected in Hot Seat: Theater Criticism for the New York Times, 1980-1993 (1998). Underwritten by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership |
