Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Internship Opportunities

An internship at Literary Arts is an opportunity to see the inside of a nonprofit organization, learn how our programs work and about Oregon’s literary community, and gain experience in a professional office environment.

Interns assist staff with general office operations and specific program needs. Tasks vary depending on the skills and goals of each intern. Responsibilities may include:

• answering telephones
• taking and processing ticket orders
• archiving print media
• assembling mailings
• researching authors
• editing and proofreading
• processing Oregon Book Awards and Oregon Literary Fellowships applications
• synthesizing program evaluations
• assisting with the Writers in the Schools anthology

We ask that interns commit to 8-10 hours per week for at least one semester or three months. Scheduling is flexible. Interns must be detail-oriented with strong communication skills. We depend on our interns to take initiative and to be able to work independently as well as with staff. Internships are unpaid but work-study or class credit can be arranged.

Internship requests are accepted on a rolling basis. To be considered for placement, please send an email with attached resume to Jennifer MacGregor.

Volunteer Opportunities

Literary Arts often relies on volunteers to assist with large mailings and office tasks. If you would like to volunteer with us, please contact Jennifer MacGregor or call 503.227.2583.
