Oregon Literary Fellowships

Since 1987, Literary Arts has honored more than 500 writers and publishers and has distributed nearly $600,000 in grants and awards through the Oregon Literary Fellowships program.

Oregon Literary Fellowships help Oregon writers initiate, develop or complete literary projects in poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama and young readers literature. Writers in the early stages of their career are encouraged to apply.

The fellowships also support Oregon’s independent publishers and small presses. They are awarded to presses or magazines that demonstrate a commitment to literary publishing in the areas of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama and young readers literature.

In 2008, Literary Arts received a total of 365 applications. The winners will be announced in January, 2009. The awards are merit-based, and the minimum award amount is $2,500.

Visit Paper Fort, the Literary Arts blog, for news about Oregon’s writers and readers.

The applications for 2009 Oregon Literary Fellowships will go online in January, 2009.

Your fellowship came to me just as I
had come to Robert Frost’s two roads that
diverge in a yellow wood, and you have
helped me choose the path of a writer.
