Remembering Anita Sullivan

I walked out today with a cloak of geese flaring behind me
and for once I was not
so fierce to remember their beautiful alien
clatter, their flight patter,

because I know the way it will remain with me
is not by recall. I trust this music.
And when I looked over at the field of sheep
as if I were the sky too,
their faces lifted all,
like a row of small crosses.
