More about Writers in the Schools
A resource for students and faculty, WITS offers a host of literary services including:
–15-day writing workshops in high school classrooms
–One-day visits by local and touring authors
–Mentorships for students to work one-on-one with writers
–Faculty writing workshops and professional development for teachers
–Books for classrooms and school libraries
–Public student readings at local bookstores and cafés
–Annual student anthologies
–Discount student tickets to Portland Arts & Lectures events
Writers in the Schools currently serves all Portland public high schools and several alternative programs. In 2004-2005, the program sponsored writing workshops in 75 classrooms and served more than 3,000 students.
